Mike Neaves (of The Eurosuite, Plurals and previously Nitkowski) has spent the last few years drip-feeding a series of interesting EPs of solo material.
His latest release was recorded live and mixed quickly at home in Lockdown and mastered by Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse Studios.
Modern Horrors at various times cryptically suggests an allegiance to wonky Dancehall turned inside out, a twisted form of ghetto house, and Warp Records style experimentalism. Just as you're losing yourself in the skittering drum machines you feel the weight of mutating synth drones hijacking proceedings. These neon-tinged, mournful melodies bring to mind Burial's more esoteric tracks.
Modern Horrors is fast and frantic and but slow and drowsy simultaneously. The throbbing bass lines might remind you of a distant warehouse party at 3am and the urgent percussion may appeal to your noggin, meanwhile the long-form cinematic dirges suggest a desperate sadness.
